Communicating to the Public

When I teach Language Development at the undergraduate level, I incorporate a community outreach project over the course of the semester to help my students become comfortable conveying scientific information to a lay audience, apply theory to practice, and channel their creative and social excitement into their linguistic coursework. These projects are some of the ones created by my undergraduate students. Click on the images to access their projects.

Sample Student Feedback

This project was an excellent way to implement the knowledge that we had gained throughout this course and produce something tangible that shows how applicable it is to the real world…I think it is a great way to really understand the information rather than just memorizing course material.

This project helped me apply course concepts in a way that may serve to help me in my future career endeavors. As someone who is starting graduate school to become an SLP, treating patients is important, but patient education is just as valuable/a vital part of rehabilitation in general.

I loved the flexibility of the project, this definitely drove creativity and made the project more fun. I also liked how it was broken down into multiple small parts.

I liked working with people who I didn't know before and being able to put all of our ideas together to create such a cool project that we're all interested in.
