to work with Dr. Syrett
Research Assistant
Work in the Laboratory for Developmental Language Studies as a Research Assistant. Dr. Syrett accepts between 3-5 RAs each year. Interviews are conducted in March-April. Only 1st and 2nd year students are typically accepted. Juniors are rarely admitted because of the extensive leadership and research training involved. Email language.studies@rutgers.edu with
-
a personal statement
-
the list of Linguistics and/or Cognitive Science classes you have taken
-
your GPA and unofficial transcript
-
your resumé.
Dr. Syrett will respond within 48-72 hours on weekdays. Her current RAs conduct the first round of interviews.
Honors Thesis Student
Write your senior honors thesis under the supervision of Dr. Syrett. Dr. Syrett advises between 1-3 students on an honors thesis each year, and typically does not advise anyone she has not taught before (who has received an A) or who has not been an RA in her lab. This is because a thesis is an intensive collaborative effort. If you are interested in writing a thesis, please email Dr. Syrett directly at kristen.syrett@rutgers.edu to set up a meeting. Please come prepared with a possible thesis topic. Please note that a thesis is a *year-long* project, beginning in the Spring of your junior year, and you will be expected to meet throughout the summer.
